Manufacturer: Gränsfors Bruk has been making handcrafted axes for over 100 years. Each axe is signed with the smith’s initials as a guarantee of quality. The company is located in the Swedish village of Gränsfors in northern Hälsingland. The forge sits at the heart of Gränsfors village and you can hear the rhythmic pounding from the forge as you approach.

Smiths:  Gränsfors Bruk Axes are forged by very skilled smiths. The proof of this skill is that each smith can forge an axe with such precision that no post-processing is needed.  This is what distinguishes Gränsfors Axes from other industrially manufactured axes. Each Gränsfors Bruk Axe has the initials of the master smith who actually forged it stamped on the axe head to proudly highlight the excellence behind the workmanship.

The Handle: Gränsfors Bruk handles are made from hickory. Hickory is the perfect wood because it is both strong and flexible. It has long, parallel fibers which increases the life of the handle. To improve the quality of each handle, it is soaked in hot linseed oil then treated with beeswax to make it more resistant to dirt and water.
