Jute is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fiber that can be spun into coarse, strong threads to make twine and rope. Jute fiber is 100% bio-degradable and recyclable and thus environmentally friendly.  It is great as a nesting material to start a fire using an ember from charcloth, char rope, bow drill, hand drill, fire piston, flint and steel, etc.

Jute is also a very good fire tinder. It catches easily on fire when used with a ferrocerium rod or fire steel to ignite it.

I have coiled and bundled the 15 ft. jute rope in such a way that you can pull one end of the rope to get the length that you need and it stays coiled without you having to uncoil or unravel the whole thing each time you need to use some.
