Oakum fibers separate and fluff up easily to make a quick bird’s nest!

The material used in Oakum comes from the fiber of virgin natural hemp or jute. The fibrous material of Oakum is very flammable and makes for a great tinder bundle. It also makes a great nesting material when separated and fluffed up to use with bow drills, hand drills, fire pistons, flint and steel, char cloth, etc., to start your fire.  It can also be ignited very easily using a ferrocerium rod or fire steel or with just a strong magnifying glass.

What’s included with your purchase:

• One large and long Oakum bundle that is over 2-ft long. Each bundle is made of 4-5 big individual strands. The strands can be individually separated just like rope.
