Unique Fire Starter that we personally invented!

All you need is a Firestick to start your fire. It is self-igniting and waterproof. No matches or any other fire lighting implement is needed. It is self-contained. The Firestick is non-sticky so can carry it in your pocket or store it with other equipment and not worry about it sticking to them and making a mess.

How to use the Firestick to start your fire:

  1. First unwrap the small strip of duct tape that is wrapped near the head of the Firestick and set it on the side. You’ll see that strip of duct tape has a small piece of black waterproof sand paper adhered to it.
  2. Next break approximately 1/4 inch off the head (end without a jute loop) of the Firestick by gently and lightly hitting and pounding around it using the spine of your knife or a small piece of rock. You don’t have to hit it hard. Be sure to save the small pieces of broken pine pitch if possible because they’re very flammable and can be used to help start your fire.
  3. Inside you’ll find a protective aluminum foil cover. Expose the small piece of aluminum foil and take it off revealing two jute rope ends that are tucked over the heads of two large strike anywhere matches. The jute acts to help keep the heads of the strike anywhere matches from being damaged. You’ll see that there are two strike anywhere matches to ensure a strong ignition when lit.
  4. Expose the heads of the strike anywhere matches from the jute and fluff the jute ends thoroughly by separating the jute strands. The fluffed up jute ends will help to ignite the pine pitch.
  5. Ignite the strike anywhere matches by striking them on a rough surface. If for some reason you can’t find a rough surface, use the small piece of black sand paper that is on the strip of duct tape. Wrap the duct tape around your finger so that the sand paper in on the outside then strike the head of the strike anywhere matches on it.
  6. Holding the Firestick at the jute loop end tilt it slightly downwards so that the flame will start to catch the pine pitch on fire. Once the pine pitch is on fire it burns very hot and can start to drip. Be sure to keep it from dripping onto your toes!
  7. You can then place the Firestick underneath your kindling and build your fire. Take the small pieces of broken pine pitch and put them on your fire.

Back up in case of failure:

The Firestick has a jute twine loop on one end that you can hook onto a carabiner and it also acts as a handle and a backup. If for some reason the Firestick gets damaged and the heads of the strike anywhere matches becomes unusable, the jute loop acts as a backup that can easily be ignited using a ferrocerium rod to get the Firestick catch on fire. Cut the jute loop and separate the strands thoroughly and fluff up the fibers really well.  Ignite the fluffed up jute fibers with a ferrocerium rod. Hold the Firestick slightly downwards to let the flame catch the pine pitch on fire.
