It works well even if your shivering and your hands are shaking and unsteady! It is a combination of Fatwood coupled with a Strike Everywhere Match.  It is just about foolproof to use when starting your fire. Ignite the Strike Everywhere Fatwood Matchstick on any rough surface or if there isn’t a rough surface use the small piece of striker that is included. When the match ignites, it will also ignite the Fatwood that is attached to it. Fatwood burns very hot and it can literally burn right side up because of the pine resin that is naturally on the wood.

The fatwood attached to the matchstick will also act as a reinforcement to help prevent the matchstick from breaking when you ignite it. Most breakage is caused by improperly holding the matchstick while striking to create ignition.
